The situation
The client is an Inc. 5000 construction company based in Texas with about 505 employees. AI use was lacking in much of the organization, and there was no written policy on how it should be used. The team had ideas for internal apps, but they had never gotten past a simple prototype hosted on Vercel, and nobody on staff knew how to take them to something the company could scale.
What we did
We started with governance, meeting with their Director of IT and Special Projects along with their legal and leadership teams to write an AI governance and security policy for the company.
With that policy in place, we ran three training sessions with the executive staff on using AI in their own workflows. One of the areas we covered was employee assessments. The purpose was to make sure each employee is on the path the company intends for them, and the assessments had nothing to do with downsizing. That work shined a light on some high performers, where the data backed a decision a manager had been missing.
We also advised on their tech stack and helped write the product requirements documents (PRDs) for the internal apps the team had in mind, so they had a plan for building and scaling them past the prototype.
Where it stands now
The company has continued developing its internal tools. The AI governance policy is now part of the new hire packet, so every new employee is covered by it, and AI use has grown in parts of the organization where it was lacking before.
